World Disability Day, International Day of Persons with Disabilities, focuses on a different issue on World Disability Day

International Day of Persons with Disabilities

World Disability Day, International Day of Persons with Disabilities is on 3rd December and
since 1992.It honors the contribution made to our world by those with physical and mental
handicap.Like in India and Pakistan, the society in Nepal too views physical and mental
handicapsas a result of past life’s sins. Handicapped are usually treated as sub human; they have
very limited access to education and meaningful employment. Often you can see a person with
physical disability begging on the streets to sustain life. However, NGOs say that the numbers will be much more once the 2011 census is completed.
India is home to 60 million disabled people. Of them, 48 percent are visually impaired,
28 percent are movement impaired, 14 percent are mentally disabled and 10 percent have
hearing and speech disabilities. These are the findings of ‘People with Disabilities in India
